Default protection monk hero?

So I have a group of friends that I play nightfall pve with right now. There are 6 of us, but none of us are monks. I am in charge of the two monk heroes (dunkoro and tahlkora) and I am wondering what I should do...

So right now I have dunkoro specialized in divine favor and healing and Tahlkora in Divine favor and Protection. The Protection monk seems to have worse AI (seems to ignore half her spells) and so I am wondering if it is wise to keep her protection specced.

Short Question: Is it smarter to have two healing monks, two hybrid monks, or one protection and one healing? Any advice on how to make a protection monk operate a little better?

BTW: I dont have factions, but have access to the skills from prophecy and nightfall incase that makes a difference.

Thanks!

when i run h/h i use attacking heroes and monk hench, since the hench do a good enough job. so if u and your friends work together good, take the hench they work fine. if u want heroes id say go for 2 hybrids or a hybrid and a healer, try not to use prot hero as u said they seem to not use full bar

Check this out http://www.pvxwiki.com/wiki/Category...ng_hero_builds

You want to use WoH as you most used elite on them and for the most part hybrids do work on heros.I would use 1 monk hero hybrid and one henchie that is how I do it.You really don't need any skills from Factions although res chant is nice.

There are some good WoH hybred builds for monks that work well as Henchies.

Monks aren't bad at using group protects, but individual ones, they don't pick well usually. I've had some luck with RoF on a monk, and Aegis is easy to deal with, but not guardian, Spirit Bond, or Protective spirit.

Monks excel at making red bars go up, and are fairly good at condition/hexes going away.

If I needed 2 monk heroes, I might have one spec as a /ME into Inspiration and have them take [[hex eater signet] and [[power drain] instead of protection. Hex Eater is a good area hex removal with energy management built in (0 cost, up to 12 extra energy per cast, and removes 4 exes, with only 8 spec in Inspiration).

Imo, hybrid heros are the best as of now. Until, if ever, lod goes back to where it was. This is pretty basic and flexible bar to start out with:

[build prof=Monk/Elementalist][Word of Healing][No Skill][No Skill][No Skill][Dismiss Condition][Protective Spirit][Aegis][Glyph of Lesser Energy][/build]

You can just pick and choose what you want in there, [cure hex], [patient spirit], [reversal of fortune], [guardian], [signet of rejuvenation] all work.

hero dunno about pre-prot
la_cabra's bar is pretty gd, except I won't put PS on it. (Hero puts PS on minions!! You now know how much IQ tahlkora has!)

Errr wouldn't add in RoF for heros. Sure its one of the greatest skills........for humans.

No need for guardian if you have Aegis. Maybe [dwayna's kiss]?

Needs a second heal.

[Dwayna's Kiss] or [Patient Spirit] is a good selection.

Also, Protective Spirit is fail on hero monks, and makes them drain their energy, and they don't use it well (Throw it on minions, or after it's needed). Shielding Hands, or Shield of Absorption work much better.

I've had luck with Reversal of Fortune on a Hero monk, but mostly since even misused, it functions on a monk as a minor heal, and minor protection.

Something along the lines of

[build prof=Mo name="WoH Hybred Monk" box hea=11+1+1 pro=10+1 div=10+1][WoH][Dwayna's Kiss][Signet of Rejuvenation][Shielding Hands][Aegis][Mend Condition][Cure Hex][empty][/build]

The last skill can be [[gole] or [[Divine Spirit] or some other energy management, you can also replace Signet of Rejuvenation with RoF, or use that in the empty slot.

[build prof=Mo/me name="WoH Mesmer Monk" box hea=12+1+1 Insp=8 div=10+1][WoH][Patient Spirit][Signet of Rejuvenation][Purge Conditions][Hex Eater Signet][Cure Hex][Power Drain][empty][/build]

This Hero needs to be on guard, as they won't use Power Drain otherwise. You could always remove one of the heals, or replace Purge Conditions with [[Spotless soul]. You have 1 slot to play with. [[Divine Spirit] Isn't bad, though that's a lot of E-management, but Hex Eater has a dual purpose (mass hex removal and energy), and Power Drain relies on casters being around, and these are heroes.

Another option on the second hero is one of the Mantras, if you're going into an elemental heavy area (Hell's Precipice for example).

Why Cure hex and Hex Eater Signet? Because Cure is a good extra heal, and Hex Eater has a long recharge time.

I'd avoid a resurrection, simply because you want the monk healing first, but I guess you could find a way to squeeze a heal on one of these two guys.

Edit: Doh, no factions, and unsure about EotN. Signet of Rejuvenation is not required, it's just a nice free heal which helps with energy, and can be replaced with a cheap heal (I think there's a DF signet that does something similar in Proph or NF too), Cure Hex can be replaced with [[remove hex] if need be too.

You could be in charge of the big protects like protective spirit on a hero just disable it when you need to.

1) touch skills suck on heroes... they run up to frontline and get pwnt...

2) put a rez on your hero, just shift + click it (disable) and only use it when you tell them to...

3) heroes use things like power drain quite well...

You're res should be on off characters, not your monks. A monk shouldn't have a res. The monk should dedicate their entire skillbar to keeping the team alive.

I've been using Hex Eater Signet for a while, and it works amazingly well, and in general, who ever has it usually uses it on back liners first. It depends on your build though. If you're tugging along a MM, you may not have much of a front line beyond your minions.

Yichi is generaly correct on his assessment. however, if you have 2 monks, you can probably slide a res on one of them if you need it for party balance (IE, need someone with a hard res or at least 2 resses)

Untrue. Completely untrue. I use 3 monk heroes and the are awesome. (not sure how to do the build code)
1. Shield of Deflection
2. Aegis
3. Dismiss Condition
4. Shield Guardian
5. Reversal of Fortune
6. Signet of Devotion
7. Remove Hex
8. Ressurection Signet

Only problem with it is that signet of devotion takes too long to cast.

The fact that you need 3 isn't helping your argument.

There are a handful of places where RC really shines... but only a handful. Not a bad response to Twisting Jaws anyway. And yeah, there's a reason Sab stuck Prot Spirit on an MM with excess energy.

My Talhkora is a prot and I think she is the best monk I have ^^ Actually I always used her ... and never really used Dunkoro (healer).

(Monk/Mesmer)

1. Life Sheath
2. Protective Spirit
3. Life Bond
4. Shield of Absorption
5. Aegis
6. Dismiss Condition
7. Power Drain
8. Rez

Hero/Hench AI use prots based on your health level, which is why you see Protective Spirit cast on minions. Prots are best used in anticipation of whatever the prot is best used against.

Therefore, H/H AI fail at using most Protection Prayers skills.
